Goddess Brigid
Model Talia Arone with her daughter Nova. Brigid is the Goddess of hearth, home, childbirth, poetry and artists. She had 19 priestesses who would take turns lighting a fire at Kildare each night starting on Imbolc. On the twentieth night, Brigid herself would ignite the embers, which would burst into a flames.
Across Europe families put candles in their window to welcome her into their homes. In their hearths they would light a fire in her name, and in the morning look for the ashes of a goat hoof print to indicate that luck and fertility would be theirs in the coming Spring.
In the middle ages, midwives would whisper to St. Brigid, who wandered through the streets, to come into the house and birthing room to assist women actively engaged in childbirth.
